Notes from the Summer Palace

Seher’s Shah work on display within the Summer Palace.

A sample of Seher Shah’s recent work ‘Notes from a City Unknown’ is currently being displayed within the Summer Palace of the Lahore Fort (شاہی قلعہ) as part of Art Lahore ‘22, which runs from 6th March to 7th April.

Seher Shah: Thank you to the Lahore Arts Foundation Trust and Sabah Husain for an invitation to share the ‘Notes’ in the Summer Palace, a labyrinth of chambers built in the mid-1600s. A dream realized to have work in Lahore. I hope to share this work in its entirety next month in Delhi after many years.

Notes from a City Unknown.

Art Lahore ‘22: 'The exhibition aims to revisit the traditional genre in poetry and music in the subcontinent, which was shared by poets of different beliefs. The subcontinent was a site of convergence and interplay of many belief systems and religions, some monotheistic and others with multiple deities. In this sociopolitical context, a message of tolerance and pluralism was conveyed through Sufi and Bhakti poetry. The writing and poetry spans centuries of active reflection, imagination and transcendence. The title of the exhibition is taken from a couplet by Amir Khusrow referencing gardens and the idea of a utopia or paradise on earth.'
