Spacebar Magazine
Spacebar is a digital literary quarterly for stories about space.
A note from the Editor, Raniya Hosain:
Spacebar is an independent digital magazine. It publishes and produces stories that explore both real and imagined 'space'. The breadth of this subject moves from outer space to kitchen counters, from geology to architecture, from cityscapes to bodies. Spacebar raises intricate questions about what space is and is not, who it can and cannot belong to, and how we can reimagine these categories.
Every three months, we carefully select thematic pieces that span across mediums and genres. This cross-disciplinary approach allows us to celebrate and challenge what the new-age magazine can be. Our publication cycle is designed to bring you thoughtfully curated stories that resist today’s pace of consumption by inviting you to indulge.
Raniya Hosain is the 21-year-old winner of the 2020 edition of Zeenat Haroon Rashid (ZHR) Writing Prize for Women. Her hard hitting essay, Portrait of a Woman in Pain, has been described by the judges of the competition as, “An experiential examination of womanhood in Pakistan that weaves a picture that is at once personal and prosaic as well as universal and profound.”
Hosain previously won the Queen’s Commonwealth Essay Competition in 2014. Currently, she is pursuing a master’s degree in English literature at King’s College, London.
